Made in China: Ed hardy, like Coach, is manufactured in China. This creates a wealth of counterfeiting opportunities due to the lesser quality and the explosive demand. That said, like Coach, Ed Hardy does separate itself from the mainstream run of the mill Chinese product due to some signature features. And it is with these features that a shopper can hope to identify and separate the real from the phony. This guide will attempt to highlight some of these features.
Ed Hardy Handbag Texture: Their handbags generally have a unique multi textured exterior consisting of canvas/leather, silk screen, embroidery and rhinestones, flowing from smooth to granular to rigid and peaked. This is a staple of Ed hardy, and it is also what the fakes often times fail at. Many times fakes will have embroidery and silk screen but lack rhinestones, or have rhinestones but no embroidery etc.
Below are two images of a multi-textured area: [images for guide taken from used handbag, so some
wear will be present].
Note: The different textures are present here; the rhinestones, canvas, silk screen and embroidery.
Note: The blending of the textures, and how they make the handbag an artistic canvas. Fake bags will not
have this varying degree of texture.
Concerning Rhinestones: Ed Hardy manufactures handbags that do not have rhinestones or are not canvas
based. [nail group]. Groups with rhinestones: [Diddy, Sandy, Tanya, Jane etc.] *We currently do not have the full
list of rhinestone bags.
Leather hang tags: Ed hardy bags with leather accents will have a hang tag [leather sample] attached to
the handbag with a metal clip chain.
Image below of leather tag:
Note: The gold chain connecting the tag, and the "genuine leather" is embossed, meaning it is not printed on the
tag, if you run your finger over it you will feel the texture.
Ed hardy logo hang tag: A tag with the logo sewn into it will also be attached to the bag.
Note: Notice the neat and consistant stitch line, every stitch is the same size, and none are crooked or
running off course. They also are the correct distance from the edge of the leather tag, they never veer too close or too far from the
edge. A fake handbag may have an inconsistant stitch size, crooked stitches or stitches that have incorrect
space relations
to the tag edge.
Interior lining: The lining inside the handbag should be of good quality. The logo should be evenly spaced with
the proper positioning of the TM (trademark) symbol .
Note: The stitching creates a tiny diamond shape pattern. This is a higher quality lining than on many of the
fake handbags.
