Ed Hardy Zippers and Metal Accents
In this guide we have illustrated some authentication details about
Ed Hardy handbags.
The purpose is to help you understand some of the fundemental features of knock off
Ed Hardy, which will help you avoid much of the faux E.Hardy merchandise, namely handbags,
on the web.

We recommmend that you read our tutorial about how
to
spot fake handbags
first, to learn the universal tips essential for building a foundation for spotting
phony handbags.
As we
get more details we will add them.
Also, if you the reader have anything else to add, please email it to us, we will be glad to
add it to the site, info@spotfakehandbags.com
Metal Accents: Much of the hardware on Ed hardy handbags will have an etched logo of some
kind on it. The logo will always be centered, will be the correct font and a clear impression.
Below is a handbag strap tip with an etched logo:
Below is the strap tip:
Note: The picture above is taken in natural color. This accent is normally gold, but
in the pic (below), we altered the color as to give you a better look at the detail and
space relations within the piece. Notice the detail, how far the "Y" tail loops down, the
script withnig the "ED" and the quality of the impression. Every part of the logo is equally
pressed. On many fakes, the stamp impression may be uneven, having one part of the logo
looking like it is deeper in some areas, but in other spots, the logo may look like it has
a more shallow imprint. Also, this logo is perfectly centered, something many fakes will
screw up due to the hurried way in which they manufacture them, stamping the logo closer
to one side of the edge than another.
Metal Zipper pulls: The zipper pulls will also have the logo etching, and should follow
the same parameters detailed (above).
Below is a metal zipper pull:
Below is a metal zipper pull O-ring:
Note: This zipper pull has a connecting o-ring with a gap. It is uncommon for a higher
end designer to have any gaps in their links or rings, and would normally
be a sign of a
fake. However, Ed Hardy being made in China, does share some similarities
with lower end products. This is offset by the quality and texture of their signature designs
that canvas the outside of the handbags. Coach however, does not use gapped o-rings, despite
being made in China. So an o-ring with a gap does not mean that the Ed Hardy bag is fake, but
it would indicate that a Coach bag was.
Zippers: Zippers can vary depending on the handbag line, but it is always good to
take a look at zipper for size and brand. The exterior zippers may have less information
stamped on them, and many times it is the interior zippers that will have the lion share
of the etchings.
Below is an image of an exterior zipper.
Note: The only etching found was on the head of the zipper. Here we found the number
5, this most likely relates to the zipper size.
Below is an image of the interior zipper. This zipper was on the compartment that
had the Ed hardy label inside.
Note: On this smaller zipper, the number "2" is etched. Also, the letters "HYC" are
etched on the top area of the zipper [the H looks like an M or N depending on the way the light
hits it].
Below is an image of both the "5" and the "2": This should highlight
the differences in size
between the two zippers in relation to their numbers. And with this size spectrum, an
inference can be made about the size of the 1, 3, 4, 6 (if exists etc) zippers, if you were
to encounter them. If a bag has a zipper that says "3",
and it is larger than the number "5" shown here, than that could be a red flag.
Snaps: Buttons and snaps will also show some type of stamp/etching of the maker. It appears
that Ed Hardy, unlike say Louis Vuitton, does not etch their own logo into the buttons snaps
or zippers. This may change, or it may already not be the case on some other lines, but as far
as the information gathered thus far, it does not appear to be a universal feature of
Ed Hardy. This
is most likely due to the less costly Chinese manufacturing. Anything made in France or Italy
tends to have the designer name on the snaps/buttons/zippers etc.
Below is an image of a snap closure:
Note: The word "GUAN" and the letters "HUA" with some product/model reference numbers
are etched along the snap rim.
