In this guide we have illustrated some details about Coach that will help you
weed out the fakes. This is
in no way a conclusive or complete guide to every detail about Coach, but it has
enough information to highly increase you chances of spotting the fake Coach handbags.
Combining some of these brand specific points with the universal tells we have listed should
help keep you insulated from many of the fake Coach handbags in the open market.

Note: Many of the images we show to highlight a specific tell, also have another tell
within the same photo. When this occurs we will try to point out the secondary tell also.
However, on occasion we may miss some of the secondary tells in the photos. So we encourage
you the reader to inspect the images for other tells to help increase your spotting skills.

We recommmend that you read our tutorial

foundation with the brand specific tells we highlight here.
As we

Disclaimer: Up until 2002 roughly 75% of Coach handbags were manufactured in the US. Now, most are assembled in China.
Coach is not a premier designer. They are not like Chanel, Fendi, Balenciaga etc. Authentic brand new
Coach handbags will often times sell for less than the amount of a
fake Louis Vuitton.
Becasue of this, and along with the various factories that Coach utilizes, Coach handbags do not
adhere to a specific set of rules. A specific detail that one authentic Coach handbag may have,
another Coach bag may not. Also, Coach has outlets, their bags are discounted and some may even
have minor imperfections. Add to all of this the high demand for Coach, and we have the perfect
storm of counterfeiting. However, there are some details that Coach will
not have
on their handbags. In this guide we try to illustrate some of them. Coach is difficult.
But we can give you a fighting chance.

7. Lining: If the outside of the bag has the CC pattern, the lining will not have
any pattern. If the outside of the bag does not have the CC pattern, the lining will
most likely have the CC pattern (although sometimes neither the outside nor the inside
will have the CC pattern).
You will NEVER see a bag with the CC pattern on the
outside AND the inside. This is a fake Coach handbag. Also, the
"classic favorites" style bags do not have a lining at all.

Note: Legacy bags
have a the same multi-colored striped silk lining, no matter what the
exterior color or pattern is.
Further lining notes:
- Authentic bags are usually lined with either cotton or satin fabric. It is a good
sign to see the silk "CC" signature fabric inside the handbag. Many, but not all,
fake Coach
handbags do not produce good quality signature satin, so they avoid
using it.
- Fake signature satin is a huge red flag.
- If the interior is a solid cotton material the authentic bag will have a
thicker feel and have a horizontal line pattern.
However, this material is usually reserved for the
coin pockets of their wallets and at times is used in solid leather bags
(older styles) but it also will say "EST 1941" under the diagonal of the
larger leather item with this interior, and rarely used otherwise.
- If the entire interior has the word Coach stamped in a diagonal, continuous
pattern, it is a good indicator that the Coach handbag is fake.
- Interior fabric will usually contrasts the exterior color, unless it is a
classic Coach design. Classic designs usually have an interior to match the exterior.
- Each Coach style # has a specific interior color
depending on the exterior color and pattern specific to that model.
8. Seams: Authentic Coach handbag interiors and authenticity tags should
never be glued but neatly stitched on. If the stitching is of poor
quality, by being raised in some areas, or if you see the string knot then
it may be a fake.
Below is an image of poor seam/stitch line:
9. Snaps/buttons/hardware:Many Coach buttons have their logo stamped on them. But not all models do.

O rings: If the bag or accessory has any O-Rings they will be
continuous circles and high quality. There will be no break
in the circle and should not spin. If the strap has a key
hook on it it will be the same color and the same size as the O-Ring. Fake Coach
O-Rings may spin and the gap is visible, where the metal had been pinched together.
Also, the metal may be
plated to look like brass. Real Coach hardware is made of actual brass or heavy
duty metal (more on gold metal hardware later).
Below is an image of an authentic Coach O-Ring:

Note: Thers is no gap in the ring and it is secured to the link. This O-Ring lost its
zipper pull, which actually helps make the point due to the ability to view all
360 degrees of the ring.
Below are two images of fake Coach O-Rings's.

Note: Notice the gap in the ring where it was cheaply pinched together. Also the
ring is not secured and can spin freely 360 degrees.
Harware: Hardware/metal accents should not appear too shiny and cheap. There should
be a slight aged look to the metal.

10. Dust bags: Authentic Coach dust bags should be dark chocolate brown with
a red drawstring. In the bottom right the words in all caps "COACH EST.1941?" written
in white. Coach does not use cheap material to make their dustbags. A flimsy, cheaply
made dustbag is a good indicator the bag is fake.

More tips:
- Coach never made classic leather bags with matching sewn on cell phone holders.
- Any Coach handbag with three letters in the prefix is fake. Careful not to mistake
a Zero in the center position
for the letter "O". (Bags manufactured in 2000 will have a zero in the center of the prefix).
