In this guide we have illustrated some details about
on ebay and other domains that will help you
weed out the fakes. This is
in no way a conclusive or complete guide to every detail about Coach, but it has
enough information to highly increase you chances of spotting the fake Coach handbags.
Combining some of these brand specific points with the universal tells we have listed should
help keep you insulated from many of the fake Coach handbags in the open market.
Note: Many of the images we show to highlight a specific tell, also have another tell
within the same photo. When this occurs we will try to point out the secondary tell also.
However, on occasion we may miss some of the secondary tells in the photos. So we encourage
you the reader to inspect the images for other tells to help increase your spotting skills.
We recommmend that you read our tutorial Spot Fake Handbags
first, to learn the universal tips essential to build a foundation for spotting fake handbag tells. Then reinforce that
foundation with the brand specific tells we highlight here.
As we
get more details we will add them.
Also, if you the reader have anything else to add, please email it to us, we will be glad to
add it to the site: info@spotfakehandbags.com. If we use your tip we will refrence you
and add your web/blog link if applicable.
Disclaimer: Up until 2002 roughly 75% of
as seen on ebay and in other venues were manufactured in the US (example in our
"Coach labels" section"). Now, most are assembled in China.
Coach is not a premier designer. They are not like Chanel, Fendi, Balenciaga etc. Authentic brand new
Coach handbags will often times sell for less than the amount of a fake Louis Vuitton.
Becasue of this, and along with the various factories that Coach utilizes, Coach handbags do not
adhere to a specific set of rules. A specific detail that one authentic Coach handbag may have,
another Coach bag may not. Also, Coach has outlets, their bags are discounted and some may even
have minor imperfections. Add to all of this the high demand for Coach, and we have the perfect
storm of counterfeiting. However, there are some details that Coach will not have
on their handbags. In this guide we try to illustrate some of them. Coach is difficult.
But we can give you a fighting chance.
PASS is a simple acronym for a quick Coach inspection that can be executed in
under a minute. This is not a final word test. It is more a fundamental guideline
test. This means that if the Coach handbag passes the test, it does not conclusively
confirm that the handbag is authentic. However, if the Coach handbag does not pass
the test, it should indicate that it is an imposter handbag. This test will weed out
many of the imposter bags, and it will help minimize the time spent inspecting the
handbags. If the Coach handbag passes this 60 second test, then more detailed
scrutiny should always be applied before purchase.
PASS:
Pattern
A point
Stitching
Sequence
Starting with P:
Pattern refers to the Coach monogram logo double C pattern. A quick
check on this should be done first, by inspecting the Coach double CC
pattern for uneven, slanted, irregular or asymmetric design. The Coach
Monogram pattern should not be stitched over in the center of the handbag;
it should not slant (starting higher up on one end of the pattern line and
dipping down as it goes across the bag). It should be mirror like from one
side of the bag when compared to the same spot on the opposite side. This is
shown in more detail in our imposter Coach guide. This should take
about 15-25 seconds.
A point refers to the letter “A” in Coach on the hangtag, label etc. A quick check of
all the A’s on the handbag should reveal a pointed top, not a flat top. Authentic Coach
will always have a pointed "A". Fakes may have a flat top A. This
quick check can take about 10-15 seconds.
Stitching refers to the stitch lines inside and outside the Coach handbag.
The stitch lines must be neat, orderly, straight and the same distance from the edge
of the bag or the pattern consistently. A quick check of the stitch lines inside and
outside will reveal sloppy stitching if the bag is a modest fake. Remember, the
counterfeiters will take the most time with everything on the outside of the bag,
so often times it will be the inside of the handbag where the sloppy rush job will be evidenced.
This check may take 20 seconds.
Sequence refers to the date code on the label. All pre-2002 will have the
date in the center of the first set of numbers (X=number). X5X will be 1995. All post
2002 labels will have the same format but an extra digit. X05X will be 2005. A quick
check of this will tell you if the bag was made in the correct year. If someone says
“brand new Coach,” but the sequence on the label says x03x, something is wrong. This
check should take 5 seconds.
So utilize the PASS system to weed out the modest and poor imposter handbags quickly.
And when a bag does PASS the test, remember, that is just the first stage.
More detail is always recommended before purchasing. Good luck and safe shopping!
